What really happened at her secret wedding to Jean-Bernard…

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as Cheryl Cole and it doesn’t slip off the tongue quite as easily, but that’s how she’s going to be known from now on, so we better get used to it. The former Girls Aloud singer shocked the world when she announced on her Instagram page that she had tied the knot with her French boyfriend Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini (or JB as we like to call him) after just three months of dating. (Although Cheryl’s friends apparently say they are together six months and know each other from previous years.)

Cheryl said: “I usually do not discuss my personal life but to stop the speculation I want to share my happy news… Jean-Bernard and I married on 7/7/14.

“We are very happy and excited to move forward with our lives together,” she added, while posting a picture of her giant rock on her ring finger.

She later tweeted: “Thank you for all your kind messages and well wishes” after changing her Twitter handle from @CherylCole to @CherylOfficial.

Cheryl and JB celebrated their nuptials in the exclusve Cottons House resort in Mustique with just four people present – two of which are thought to be her mother Joan and her PA Lily England – and staff members were apparently sworn to secrecy.
Cottons wedding organiser Jan O’Neill told a newpspaper: “I’m afraid I have signed the official secrets act on all of that. We can’t really discuss those things, they asked specifically to be private.”

It’s a far cry from Cheryl’s over-the- top wedding to Ashley Cole in 2010, and well, we all know how that worked out.

The newlyweds reportedly spent a small fortune on their paradise island wedding (€600,000 reportedly including first class and private flights for them and their guests), along with €400,000 or so on Cheryl’s impressive bling, and swapped their vows overlooking a beach. Wow. The loved-up couple are also apparently throwing another party in the UK for people who missed their official nuptials.

Celebrity jeweller, Vashi Dominguez, told a newspaper: “Cheryl has been presented with an emerald cut diamond engagement ring by Jean-Bernard. Reminiscent of Kim Kardashian’s emerald cut choice following her recent wedding to rapper Kanye West, the ring is crafted from platinum in a wide band and mounted with two large side stones for that added sparkle.

“Cheryl wears the showstopper with an elegant channel set diamond wedding ring – a popular choice which is understated and sophisticated yet still beautifully eye-catching.

“After such a whirlwind romance, it seems Jean-Bernard has pulled out all the stops to better the nation’s sweetheart’s previous rings, bought by Ashley Cole. This bridal set has a value of almost £300,000.

“I would value the new engagement at £275,000 and the diamond wedding ring at £15,000. Jean-Bernard is to be congratulated for his taste – they are two gorgeous rings and work so well as a combination,” she added. Eh, wow!

Cheryl has also ditched her ex-hubby’s surname in favour of Fernandez-Versini and is expected to make her X Factor bosses aware of the change too ahead of the new season of the reality TV show.

Cheryl’s shotgun wedding came under fire by many and her former bandmate Nicola Roberts was forced to defend her BFF. She posted on Twitter: “For the Versinis’, but mostly for her, who is happier than ever. Love. xo” and added a picture with a quote which read: “You can be in a relationship for two years and feel nothing; you can be in a relationship for two months and feel everything. Time is not a measure of quality; of infatuation, or of love.”

The sudden wedding has also prompted many to speculate Cheryl could be pregnant with bookies offering odds of 2-1 that she will announce her pregnancy this year, and a source said: “Cheryl’s never been so happy. She can’t wait to have his babies.”

And Nadine Coyle has invited her to join motherhood. She tweeted: “Aww @CherylOfficial you must be having an amazing time. I am so happy for you! Good luck with everything. Come join the baby club. Best ever”.

The main thing everyone wants to see is Cheryl Versini’s wedding dress – but it’s been a closely guarded secret. She must have extremely loyal people around her! Our guess is she went for something very low-key but it hasn’t stopped us guessing what designer she may have worn. Cheryl wore Monique Lhuillier to the Cannes Film Festival (this is when we first heard of her relationship with JB) but she loves David Koma’s unusual designs and has been seen sporting them on the X Factor and nights on the town. Victoria Beckham is another option as Cheryl wore one of her gowns to a film premiere in 2012 and another for the Pride Of Britain Awards in 2011. So it’s anyone’s guess really!

The wedding – which was one of the best kept secrets in the showbiz circuits for a while – was so private even Cheryl’s dad wasn’t invited. Gary Tweedy (yes, remember that was her maiden name?!) told a newspaper: “She has left it for a while before making it public because she just wanted it to be kept completely private.

I knew about it but Cheryl did that quite deliberately. And it worked.”

While Cheryl’s step-dad, Anthony Leighton, said: “I am over the moon for her. If she’s happy then I’m happy. It is a right surprise. She’s lovely and I am really happy for her.

“I found out through Facebook, she doesn’t bother with us much. She phones her sister and she phones her brother sometimes but what we hear is just back and forward. This is a bit of a surprise for everyone. I’m pleased for her,” he added.

Cheryl’s X Factor family have certainly welcomed JB in to the fold with the programme’s executive producer Mark Sidaway tweeting: “Congrats to Cheryl and JB. Met him at the Newcastle auditions. Top fella. We shared a Chinese take away as he tried to teach Louis [Walsh] French.”

And an X Factor source told a newspaper: “He fitted right in from the start and Jean-Bernard and Louis got on like a house on fire backstage. The team on the show love him.

“When Cheryl was with Ashley Cole they spent a lot of time in her dressing room but they seem very sociable and happy as a couple. Cheryl seems very happy,” the source added.

Cheryl is loved-up and we’re certainly very happy for her but reports have surfaced that she hasn’t signed a prenuptial agreement to protect her millions. A source told a newspaper: “She is a canny businesswoman but in matters of love, she believes the heart should rule the head to a certain extent.’

And the Newcastle native refused to sign one with Ashley too. At the time she said: “I think that’s defeating the point. We’re getting married because we’re committing ourselves to each other to spend the rest of our lives together. No ifs and buts. I think they (pre-nups) are disgusting.”

She’s certainly putting a lot of effort into her new marriage and is apparently learning French for her new hubby. And JB recently joked: “My English is better than her French but I teach her the words. Mainly the bad words! She teaches me the Geordie.”

Cheryl is also thought to be helping JB find a London location for one of his Cosy Box pop-up restaurants. A source explained: “Cheryl’s been really involved in helping JB find the perfect spot for his first restaurant here.” So it’s official, Cheryl is off the market again. Here’s hoping this marriage is a happier one for the Geordie lass.
