Take a leaf out of Solange Knowles’ book and stop playing it safe with your prints

Summer ’15 is going to be an interesting one- in the fashion sense of course!

Summer is no longer just a time for bright colours and exuberant amounts of floral pieces littering the high st. Oh no, this summer get ready for more trends than can be seen on day one of New York fashion week, including one that we are very excited for-mixing prints.

Now, we know that mixing prints or even print themselves may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But if you do plan to brave this fashion-forward and edgy look, take a look at UFashion.ie’s guide first.

Only a few short years ago mixing prints would have been considered a major fashion faux-pa but now, prints are all the rage.

When Carrie Bradshaw and Co (and most importantly the SATC stylist Patricia Field) began to mix and match their prints, the whole world decided to follow suit. Carrie didn’t always get it right- that newspaper-print, silk dress is what nightmares are made out of!- but with prints, herself and her gal pals knew exactly how to work the trend.

Mixing prints is not as scary as it sounds. In fact, if you are feeling a bit hesitant about trying out this trend, try a striped top first. Stripes are super versatile and one of the easiest prints to mix and match with everything.

Another tip is to keep the colour palette pretty similar. Dark colouring in the skirt? Pick up a top with a different print with similarly dark colouring-simples!
