The Netflix special premieres tonight

Bill Murray is a pretty cool human being and we’re hoping he will go up even more in our estimates now that he is spreading Christmas cheer among us all.

Netflix has been teasing us with trailers for A Very Murray Christmas, a Christmas movie special, and it’s finally being premiered on Netflix tonight. It sounds like a cross between Scrooge and a Christmas episode of Glee, only ten times better.

Here’s our list of reasons why we’re totally going to be watching A Very Murray Christmas:

  • Bill Murray is in it.
  • It’s nice to watch something new that’s Christmassy and that we haven’t seen over and over for the last 20-odd years.
  • It has a pretty cool mix of guest stars and performers. George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), Miley Cyrus and Jason Schwartzman, to name a few.
  • It’s directed by Sofia Coppola – she did Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides. Nothing to do with Christmas but good all the same.
  • It wasn’t planned but came about by accident when Coppola was chatting to Murray. We love a bit of spontaneity.
  • One of the songs by Miley Cyrus wasn’t even supposed to happen, she decided to sing ‘Silent Night’ on the fly and it is meant to be quite impressive.
  • The special was shot during a real-life New York blizzard, which tied in nicely since the movie’s storyline since it’s set around a snow storm too.
  • Bill Murray is in it.
