Here’s what you need to know about newcomer Tori Kelly
1. Her career has been a slow burner.
Now 23, she started posting videos to YouTube when she was just 14 and slowly built a fan base, before auditioning for American Idol at 16. She was shot down by Simon Cowell but she went away and kept writing.
2. She has a connection to Justin Bieber
Tori is managed by the same guy – Scooter Braun- that found the Biebs, who also got his start on YouTube. He clearly knows raw talent when he sees it!
3. She writes all her own stuff.
She also plays guitar, drums and piano. Talented or wha?
4. Sam Smith’s a fan!
She supported Sam Smith on his US tour this year, and he told her he cried when she played her song Paper Hearts. They’ve apparently written a song together too!
5.She’s got a bit of Irish in her
She’s a bit of a mix of Jamaican, Puerto Rican and German too, but we’re claiming her as our own!
