This will get you through Friday... It’s nearly the weekend and congrats, you’ve made it through another week (well almost anyway). The next few days are pretty sacred and yours to do with as you please. Don’t waste them lazing on the couch, binging on sugar (in any form) and watching Netflix – unless of course that’s your thing, in which case there’s no judgement here. So, if you’re struggling to think of what to do and are in need of a little inspiration, keep reading because here is our pick of seven events that will keep you entertained for the weekend! Lollipop Day The Dublin Gospel Choir will be singing outside Arnotts on Henry Street today, in order to help raise money for oesophageal cancer research in Ireland. This charity event is now in its 15th year and the hope is to improve public awareness of the disease. Lollies are €2 (you'll spot them about the place!) and funds raised are going to a great cause. Friday February 26th, 12.30pm Chocolate Yoga Fridays Yes you have read that correctly. What is it you ask? Well basically, you start out by drinking hot chocolate made from pure raw cacao (what chocolate is made from), which has comes all the way from Guatemala. While that sinks in, you will be given some info on why cacao and yoga are such a good pair and then your yoga class will commence! This class is pretty popular (for obvious reasons) and it's on this evening so you may need to book in quickly. Today , 6.30pm. €25, MyWellbeing, 16 Dame St. Craig David Be prepared to feel like you’re back in the year 2000 with this blast from the past - Craig David will be at The Wright Venue tonight and tomorrow night. Now, while we can neither confirm nor deny if his beanie and headphones will be making an appearance, what we can promise you is that the man himself will definitely be there. In the meantime dust off your old CDs and get practicing those song lyrics. 7 Days, anyone? Craig David's TS5 @ The Wright Venue, tonight and tomorrow, Saturday 27th February, 10pm and 3am. Dine in Dublin Festival: Pizza Club The Dine in Dublin Festival is back once again this year, until Sunday 28th February. If you’re a food lover and curious about the all the delights Dublin has to offer, then be sure to check this one out before the weekend is over. At the Pizza Club you will not only be shown how to make your own pizza, but you’ll do it all while enjoying a glass of wine and a chat with fellow foodies. Dublin International Film Festival Just in case you were wondering why Richard Gere and Angela Lansbury have been around the place lately, this is why. The Dublin International Film Festival has been running for 13 years and almost all of the films that are shown throughout the duration are Irish premieres. The festival offers movie goers a change to interact with the filmmaking community through interviews, group discussions and Q&As. The festival ends on Sunday 28th February. Visit www.diff.ie for a list of films and show times. Also - Richard will be on the Late Late Show tonight too for those of you staying in! Sexy Glam Make-up Master Class You’ll be a bronzed beauty if you’re heading out this weekend, thanks to the gals over at Benefit Cosmetics in Dundrum, who are using the gorgeous Kylie Jenner as their inspiration for a make-up master class tomorrow morning. They will be talking you through contouring, brown and gold eyes and finishing off the look using Benefit’s Fabulous Roller Lash Mascara. You might also get your hands on a goodie bag while you’re there. Saturday February 27th. Benefit Cosmetics & Brow Bar Dundrum, House of Fraser, Dundrum Town Centre. The Dog Secret Have you ever wondered what you dog was thinking about or what is going on inside his head? Yeah us neither, ahem. Anyway, for anyone who might be curious about such matters Alex Petrilli will bring you inside the world of a dog’s mind. He will discuss topics such as training you dog, introducing a new baby and teach you how to speak dog talk. Mind blown. Saturday 27th February, 2pm, The Clarion Hotel Cork.
Going out or staying in, we've got you sorted It's Friday again and only three weeks until Christmas. If that's not a reason to celebrate, we don't know what is. We've been planning our weekends since Monday but if you're struggling to think what to do with all your spare time, we've got you covered. Whether you're planning a night out with the girls or taking to the couch with a bottle of wine, here's five of the best things to do this weekend. Happy Fri-yay folks! Going Out If you’re bored of the same old spots, gather a group of pals and head to the Apres Ski Pop Up Bar at I Believe in Dublin. It's a super cool custom-designed, Scandanavian-themed ski lodge and the perfect spot to pretend you're on hols and to soak up all the festive atmosphere with hot cider and cosy blankets. Ibelieveinchristmas.ie Staying In If your bank balance is running low with the amount of Christmas shopping you’ve been splurging on, then staying in this weekend will mean you’ll catch every moment of the I’m A Celeb final. We’re rooting for George Shelly or Ferne McCann to win, but we reckon Vicky Pattison may have a good shot. Saturday night will see the fourth runner up leave the camp while Sunday will see the King or Queen of the jungle crowned. We’re a little excited! Going to the cinema If you’re wondering what to see this weekend, check out Carol, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, a film that has been getting rave reviews and was a hit at the Cannes Film Festival bagging a number of awards. It’s based on the 1952 novel ‘The Price of Salt’ and sees Carol (Blanchett) stuck in a failing marriage and one with a husband who doesn’t trust her. After making friends with Therese (Mara), the women find themselves getting closer and closer, and eventually finding themselves at risk of losing everything. This one is definitely worth a watch. Feeling Festive Cork’s Glow festival kicked off this week and if you’re in the mood for some Christmas feels, head to the Glow festival at Bishop Lucey Park in the heart of Cork city. The festival takes place each weekend in the run up to Christmas and features a live music stage with carol singers and different musicians performing in aid of a range of different charities. There’ll be some free Irish music sessions in the nearby pubs too. corkchristmascelebration.ie Christmas Markets With over 120 stalls, pop up cafés, artisan food and drink counters, Christmas Bazaar will be one of Dublin’s biggest indoor Christmas markets and is well worth checking out this weekend. It will be taking place from today, December 4th until Sunday, December 6th in Smithfield Square and is the ideal spot to find those stocking fillers. See the event's Facebook page for more information.
Burlesque, big bites and ballet! It’s Fri-yay and we’re extremely excited about the two days of nothingness stretching out ahead of us. If a lie-on is the only thing you’ve planned for your weekend, chances are your diary is a completely blank canvas and your free time full of potential. We relish these moments but if you’re someone who can’t sit still, we’ve compiled a list of great things to do over the next few days to make sure you’ve given your days off the appreciation they deserve. Bite Food Festival This is definitely one for the foodies and we’re hungry just thinking of it. It’s a brand new festival for artisan food and drink and is currently taking place in the RDS Dublin until Sunday. Over 150 artisan food producers will be there and yes, there will be a chance to sample some of the tasty products. That, as well as demos, hands on cooking classes and drinks master classes. BiteFoodFestival.ie IFI French Film Festival You don’t always get to see the award-winning European language films in your local cinema so if you fancy a bit of French culture this weekend, pop along to the IFI to see the French Film Festival. For the whole package, check out the IFI Café Bar afterwards for an authentic French food and wine menu. If you’re living too far from Dublin don’t worry as a selection of films will tour nationally. Ifi.ie Waterford Winterval This festive wonderland kicks off today in Waterford and is ideal for who thinks its never too early to get into the Christmas spirit. It will continue until December 23 so there’s plenty of time to pop along, but it’s not just all about Santa. There’s a ton of more things to do, including an exhibit from the National Reptile Zoo, an Ice-Slide and a toy museum. Winterval.ie Copellia Ballet Ballet Ireland’s ‘Coppelia’ is touring around the whole country over the next month or so but if you’re Dublin based, you’ll catch the magical performance in the Gaiety Theatre this weekend. It’s a mix of comedy, dance and seriously impressive moves and well worth a night out. BalletIreland.ie Dublin Burlesque Festival Who knew Ireland had such a burgeoning burlesque scene? Well it does, and it’s being celebrated this weekend in Dublin city centre. Tonight will see a Circus Macabre show in the Sugar Club, followed by an awards show in the same venue tomorrow. While on Sunday we love the sound of the Vintage Fashion Show and Afternoon Tea at House, Leeson Street. Dublinburlesquefestival.ie Improv Fest Ireland If you’re already a fan of improvisation or just like the idea of the spontaneity of it all, then it’s worth popping along to the Improv Fest Ireland taking place in Dublin this weekend. The schedule is filled with unscripted comedy and theatrical performances, workshops and appearances and features top acclaimed national and international acts.
