The natural way to feel better!
Nothing like good news on an Easter Sunday!
A bit of shoespiration on a Tuesday! We can barely believe our eyes these mornings when we’re leaving our house to head to work and we can see what’s in front of us. The mornings are getting brighter and we’re actually visibly experiencing real daylight for a few minutes when we finish work too. That can only mean one thing: spring is coming (and inevitably summer too!) which is good news all round really. So, if you’re completely sick of heading to the gym or going for a run in the dark, then you’ll love the brightness and boldness of the runners on our wish list. 1. Thanks to a Balfes and BodyByrne Fitness combo… In the U office, we try to be good about our healthy breakfasts Monday to Friday but we’re only human, so we're definitely guilty of slacking off on the weekend. And pretty much every afternoon, when we get a bit of a sugar dip. Despite this, we know deep down that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it’s just got a whole lot more interesting now that BodyByrne Fitness has teamed up with Balfes to create the ultimate power breakfast menu. So why the collaboration? BodyByrne have a ton of experience when it comes to being healthy and fit and according to Restaurant Manager at Balfes, David Murray, Irish people are becoming way more savvy when it comes to eating healthy. “Irish people are choosing their food and its origin much more carefully. People are also much more open to healthy alternatives. Whenever I make suggestions to guests here at Balfes, they really love when it’s a healthy option.” So if you’re a morning gym bunny, this could be exactly what you need post work out and ahead of a monotonous day in the office. The new breakfast menu options include the likes of Bodybyrne Eggs Florentine, BodyByrne oat pancakes served three different ways as well as Turbo Energy Granola and Bircher Muesli Energy Booster. They’re available weekdays from 8am – 11.30am and will be part of the weekend brunch menus too. As a little taster though – and so that you can get a healthy start to your day at home – Balfes and BodyByrne have given us three ultra healthy breakfast recipes to try ourselves. Let us know what you think! Balfes.ie / Bodybyrne.ie BodyByrne's Paul Byrne's healthiest tip: People can work out 6-7 days a week but if their nutrition is poor they will never see any results. It is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise; abs really are made in the kitchen. Restaurant Manger David Murray's healthiest tip: Try to eat slowly so that my body has time to recognise what it has eaten as opposed to gulping food down and suddenly feeling very full. BodyByrne Florentine Serves 1 2 Poached Eggs served on slice of wholemeal bread and spinach drained well. For the sauce: 2 desert spoons of greek youghurt, quarter tspoon mustard, 1 desert spoon of fresh lemon juice, pinch of Cayenne pepper and salt and pepper to taste in a low heat pan and lightly heated for 3-4 mins. BodyByrne Oat Pancakes Serves 4 500gr organic oats 2 eggs 2 tablespoons Greek 0% Fat yoghurt Dash of milk of choice Cinnamon (optional) Stevia (optional) Water added slowly Blend all the ingredients together to form a thick mixture, adding water slowly so mixture doesn’t become too liquefied. On a hot nonstick pan add a quarter teaspoon of coconut oil. Spoon or pour out mixture on pan. Lightly fry for a few minutes on each side until lightly golden. Serve with drizzle of Maple Syrup or Agave optional. Almond Butter Recipe Approx 3 cups of organic almonds Place Almonds in an oven 250F for approx 15 mins to warm them - this will help the oils combine the mixture better. Place the almonds in a food processor fitted with an "S" blade. Scraping down the sides every few minutes this process can take up to 20 minutes so be patient. The butter should be smooth and creamy in texture. Store in a sealed jar.
Not every trip to the doctor will be as dramatic as Grey’s Anatomy, but at €55 a pop it’s still essential you get the best from each and every doctor appointment you go to. Here’s five things to keep in mind
They'll help lessen the pain of healthy January If you've already restarted January three times, having slipped (or jumped, by choice) right off the healthy wagon, we're right there with you. But we're all for forgetting, forgiving and giving ourselves numerous more chances to get back up. What we will say is that sometimes all it takes a little incentive to get us up and going and come payday, after some of our January debts have been paid somewhat, we've our eyes on a few investment pieces that we reckon might motivate us for a few more weeks. After we've treated ourselves to new shoes of course. If it makes us even the slightest bit happier going to a fitness class on a Monday or encourages us to get up that little bit earlier to make a healthier lunch, we'll take it while we can... A new school bag used to take part of the pain out of going back to school in September. We're hoping a new gym bag will have a similar effect and we're loving this one. Reduced to €27 on Netaporter. Bargain. We all know it's easier to do things when they're lying there in front of you in black and white. So write your goals and keep track of your workouts with this cute notebook from Etsy. Sweat, Smile & Repeat, €12.03, Etsy If you don't own a Nutribullet, a normal food blender will do the trick for the most part. But this is one decent machine and makes making soup, smoothies and other delicious but majorly time consuming jobs a whizz. €130, Brown Thomas You might just join the gym if it means you get to show off a new pair of runners. Loving these. Nike Free 5.0, €90, Lifestyle Sports A lunchbox with compartments. And a fork. You'll be the coolest in the office. Black & Blum lunchbox, €24, Brown Thomas For when you're pubic transporting it to and from the gym, or just want to listen to a bit of cheese while taking on the treadmill, we're all over these. We know there are some sweat-resistant headphones more suitable to working out, but these are just so US. Frends headphones, €147, Netaporter If you really can't wait, we thought we would throw in a freebie too... The Selfie Gym app helps you look ripped in less than a minute. If ever there was a more tempting promise. With this app you can enlarge your muscles (if you're so inclined), apply some tan, smoothen your skin and add some abs. Obviously we don't encourage you to photoshop yourself to the nines, but we kind of think this sounds like a lot of fun! Plus, it's free to download. Check it out here.
