And her brand new album is out tomorrow!
She’s one of the coolest girls on the music scene right now and if you haven’t heard of Foxes already, you certainly will after her brand new album (her second, btw) releases tomorrow. But chances are, you already have. Doing the vocals for Zedd’s 2013 single, Clarity, and winning a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for it, really put her on the map. And her single Let Go For Tonight was in our heads for months! Ahead of her album release tomorrow (5 Feb), we caught up with the brunette beauty to talk vintage shopping, recording in her bedroom and why she fancies James Cordon...
Congrats on your new album Foxes, we can’t wait to hear it! How different will it be compared to your first album?

I feel like I've grown into myself a lot, and learnt from the first album. I really wanted to refine what I’d done and try and make this record a little bit more stripped back. The spirit from the first album is still there as I definitely wanted it to still feel like a foxes record and wanted to keep continuity, I think this time round is a lot more emotional.
Where did the name for the second album come from?
I chose to name the album 'All I need' because at the time I buried myself into music and found that it helped me to move on and let go of things. I didn't realise at the time how much writing was a bit like therapy, helping me to come to terms with things and move away and make sense of situations. All I need is a track from the album, that has a lot to do with how I used the studio time and writing time to really escape and clear my head.
What song are you most excited about?
I'm excited about the stripped back moments on the album, tracks like 'On My Way' and 'Scar' I’m really looking forward to singing live and really going places with my voice people aren't used to hearing.
How has life changed for you since launching your music career?

Things suddenly got a whole lot more complicated. I went from writing songs in a bedroom to being on stages singing them to signing a record deal and trying to make sense of it all somewhere in between.
Have you found fame difficult to deal with?
I try to stay out of certain media situations and keep myself pretty private. I don't get recognised a lot. If I do it usually shocks me as much as it shocks the other person. Fame isn't something I think I’ll ever get used to, it’s something that doesn't feel like reality.
Out of all the big celebs you’ve met so far, which one were you most excited about meeting and why?
I’ve really liked meeting people who have given me advice, people like Pharrell were exciting to tour with and learn from.
We absolutely love your music but we’re big fans of your style too. How would you describe it?
Foxes - Mktg Use Photo hi res-36378967
My friends think I dress like a toddler from the early 90's, I think most of the things my mum dressed me in as a kid I have adult versions of in my wardrobe now. Either that or I’m a bit of a tom boy so I like the wear oversized t shirts and I'm constantly rebelling against winter so crop tops and shorts.
You’ve had some exciting collaborations with different fashion brands including H&M and Adidas. What were they like to do?
I love working with brands i grew up with, H&M was especially exciting as i remember saving up money to buy outfits as a kid, so being the face of a brand like that was a bit mental.
Who would be your dream fashion collaboration?
Where is your favourite place to shop?

I really love vintage shopping, Bricklane in East London especially. I also really like Portobello Market as it’s brilliant for finding one of a kinds and I also love Relick in Nottinghill.
What’s your favourite item in your wardrobe?
Anything my Mum gives me is usually my favourite, Beeba winter coats and dresses she made when she was younger.
What was the first thing you splashed out on when your career took off?
I remember wanting a vintage Chanel bag but I still haven't bought it. I haven't really bought anything designer, I think I spend most of my time buying vintage dresses, and shoes...
Who inspires you?

Patti Smith, Kate bush, Andy warhol, Bob Dylan.
Your collaboration on Clarity with Zedd was a big moment in the start of your career. How did that come about?
Very early on I posted a couple of tracks on sound cloud, somehow Zedd heard Youth and approached me saying he'd been looking for a female to collaborate with. We Skyped as he was in LA and I ended up going over there to meet and start working with him...I remember recording Clarity in London in my bed room all those many moons ago.
If you could pick one celebrity as your biggest crush, who would it be and why?
James Corden, he seems like he'd be fun to have a takeaway with on a Sunday night and laugh at life.
And finally, what life motto do you live by?
Everything matters, but not that much.
'All I Need' will be out from tomorrow, Friday 5 February and you can catch Foxes in Whelans, Dublin on February 24. Check out our Facebook and Twitter for a chance to win her new album!
