Back to the Future Day
Wannabe Marty McFlys, Wednesday is your day!
Well, it’s finally here. Eighties kids rejoice: today we are finally back to the future. At last.
If you don’t know what we’re talking about – shame on you, you millennial children. We’re referring of course to the excellent Back to the Future trilogy, in which the two main characters, Marty McFly and “Doc” Brown, use a time travel machine to go to October 21, 2015. Clearly a time of great advances and wonderful inventions, according to movie makers in the Eighties. Ahem.
Fans have been anticipating the arrival of this day for years, and even brands are getting in on the act, with a brand-new Hoverboard being launched that very day. Sadly, however, the Hendo Hoverboard 2.0 uses electromagnets to float above specially prepared, metallic substrate-hosting surfaces – so you can’t exactly take it for a spin on Dun Laoghaire pier.
Even Ford is joining in on the fun. The motoring company is offering customers a flux capacitor upgrade, although it is for “recreational use only”. And Pepsi Perfect is available as a very limited (and pricey) edition this week only.
If you think, however, that Universal is gearing up for the big announcement of a Back to the Future 4, think again – director Robert Zemeckis has ruled it out. Boo!
Fancy a little nostalgia? Grab a Pepsi Perfect (or pretend that your Max is Perfect) and get your hands on Back to the Future 2 – which is set on the memorable date of October 21, 2015. Anyone else got Huey Lewis going through their heads now?
