From tight, tidy pigtail braids to sexy, messy French plaits they can rescue a bad hair day in minutes. And as Alex Keville, Senior Stylist at Alan Keville for Hair explains, there are many ways to wear braids. Throw your hair up in a simple version for day and if you’ve got a big night out, they can add a cool twist to your look without looking like you’re trying too hard. Here are some of Alex’s recommended looks to ask for in a salon.

Pigtail braids

Celebs who rocked it: Olivia Munn, Hailey Baldwin, Bella Hadid

Why this look works: This is a cute look that can take you from day to night easily. You won’t have to worry about hair getting in your face. The look doesn’t suit everyone though as it can be severe, so you can pull some strands down if you want a softer look.

Why this look works: The French plait is timeless and if you wear it loosely, it looks good on most face shapes. Pin the tail part of it underneath your hair for a more formal look and if you want a more polished finish, spray with lots of shine spray for a sleek look.
