it's time for a change

new do, who dis?

Let us guess, you've been rocking the same old hair cut since you were 19 and the wildest thing you've done with your hair is accidentally use too much purple shampoo which left you with a lilac hue.

Whether it's brought on by a breakup or sheer boredom, we all at some stage or another get the urge to completely change up our hair. Hair ruts generally take place during January for one of two reasons. Firstly, it's the new year and you're overcome with big 2019 energy. You feel unstoppable because this is your year. That feeling usually comes to a halt on the 10th of January and you realise it's actually just a month of ruts. You're on the comedown from Christmas, the weather is miserable and you've nothing to look forward to.

If you find that every time you walk past the mirror you tend to let out an unenthusiastic sigh or that your once confident hair flicks are lacking a serious amount of lustre, bets are, you're stuck in a hair rut. But don't fear, hair ruts are brutal but totally fixable. Giving your hair a well-deserved chop, colour or simple restyle can do wonders for your wellbeing. All you need is some curated inspiration...that is where we come in.

If You've Never Dyed Your Hair

You were blessed by the hair gods with a colour you've never needed to change. When all your mates were chucking box dye from the supermarket on the hair in a desperate attempt to stand out, you had your wits about you and passed on that one. But now, decades later, you're sensing that it's time to give your hair a refresh - but only slightly. Take a leaf out of Lea Michele's book and introduce some subtle highlights to your hair. They're so discreet that your boyfriend won't notice but enough to make you fall in love with your hair again.

If You Think Blondes Have More Fun

While your favourite celebrity might be able to go from black to blonde in the space of a day, it's unfortunately not that attainable for us mere mortals. Instead of destroying your hair with waaaay too much bleach, go to the balayage route. It may take a few sessions in your hairdressers to achieve the level of blonde you're after but your hair will thank you for it.

So you didn't listen to the advice above and thought you were some kind of hair enigma that could handle months and months of peroxide. It's time to face the music because your hair needs to be cut free, literally. The only way your hair will ever recover from that harsh dye job is by cutting off all those processed ends. Pixie cuts are a win-win. Your hair not only looks chic but healthy too!

If You're Bored With Blonde

You're one of those mythical creatures that have somehow managed to achieve perfect platinum blonde hair but you're bored. Keep to your mythological ways by adding a bright colour to your hair. Lady Gaga did it for the Golden Globes, so why can't you? If you're not feeling a blue rinse, luckily the Kardashians are always at it so one glance at their Instagram and you've plenty of inspo to go pastel.

It's 2019, it's your year. It's time to go hard or go home. If you've been sporting long hair for what feels like the (ahem) longest time, we respect you. The maintenance that goes into hair of significant length is like no other. It takes a year to dry and you can count brushing your hair as arm day. It's time to give yourself break, get chopping.

2018 was the year for short hair and while you love your cool-girl cut, your hair feels a little a stale and that's not because you haven't washed it in days. You're in search for something fresh but you haven't got a lot to work with. Enter: the asymmetrical trim. It gives your hair that much-needed lift without sacrificing too much length. Stunning.

You heard it here first, inkwell hair is going to be one of the hottest hair trends of 2019. What makes this hairstyle so lust-worthy is the incredible shine that comes as a bonus with black hair. The colour suits every skin tone and works particularly well if you have blue or green eyes. If you're having to dye your hair ink black, then be warned - it needs a serious amount of TLC. Stock up on shine products and colour preserving hair care.

If You're Considering A Full Fringe

Don't. Wanting to cut your hair into a full fringe is a bit like getting a sudden craving for apples: something is up. Now we're not saying the want for a full fringe means your pregnant but there is something definitely wrong in your life and a fringe is not the answer. Sure, Taylor Swift makes it look good but we think we can all agree that she is a rare breed. Instead, opt for a curtain fringe. You'll look less like Boo from Monsters Inc and more like a cool girl straight off Instagram.
