And it’s every bit as good as you’d expect!
The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre has announced what’s in store for the 2017 season and you can trust us when we say, this year is set to be their best one yet!
The theatre is expecting over half a million visitors throughout the year and it’s really no surprise given there’ll be over 40 shows to choose from, including 13 spectacular new productions led by Cameron Mackintosh’s Miss Saigon. There’s something for everyone whether you’re into drama, comedy, West End, Broadway Musicals or even magic, as well as some old favourites that are back by popular demand!
New productions include Sawn Lake, Sleeping Beauty and a Moscow State Opera production of Carmen, which stars Celine Byrne. The Play That Goes Wrong, Hamlet, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Peter James’ Not Dead Enough starring Laura Whitmore, are what’s on offer in the drama department.
If a good belly laugh is what you need The Wedding Singer will do just that, or Broadway phenomenon The Illusionists will bring a spell binding spectacular of illusion and magic to Ireland for the first time.
John Cleese, Mia Farrow and Alexandra Cousteau are some of the stars that will feature in the Unique Lives series, which are designed to motivate, challenge and inspire. While Evita, Crazy For You, Wonderland, Grease and The Addams Family – with a live orchestra – are some of the West End and Broadway classics that will hit the stage. Sister Act, Hairspray, Dirty Dancing, Blood Brothers, and West Side Story should do the trick of you’re feeling a bit nostalgic.
Musicians like Conor Oberst, Tommy Fleming and pop veterans The Beach Boys will play to crowds throughout the year. Not forgetting the world premier of Sleepless, a musical rom-com based on the Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan classic, and a musical adaption of Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes.
With this incredible selection to look forward to, we’re seriously excited by next year’s line-up and it’s perfect timing too with Christmas pretty much here – Crimbo pressies all round, they’ll love you for it!
