With the news this week that funny people, Maïa Dunphy and Johnny Vegas have gone their separate ways, we got misty-eyed thinking of other celebrity break ups that made us sad.

There’s the dramatic ones and, of course, the ones you saw coming a mile off but every now and again a celebrity break up hits you right in the feels. It’s like you know the people in your actual real life.

We had that “Awww” moment when broadcaster and author Maïa tweeted that she and comedian, Johnny had broken up. They were doing the long-distance (him in London, her over here) and had a baby in 2015. Johnny also has a child from a previous relationship. It sounds like it was an amicable, grown up split - and apparently happened last year - but we’re still a bit sad that those two crazy kids couldn’t make it work.

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan

Channing – beefcake, actor and all-round good guy – and wife Jenna seemed to be mad about each other. They were always Instagramming their lovely life which made it a bit of a shocker when they went public with their split in April. They were still giving us all the feels when Channing gave Jenna a lovely shout out on American Mother’s Day recently too.

(Btw the pair had met on the set of 2006’s Step Up – which is the perfect excuse to watch this again!)

Chris Pratt and Anna Faris

Another pairing of two funny people – who were super-cute on their social media. Chris and Anna were always messing and seemed to have a solid relationship (not to mention a very cute son). Then the familiar Insta post arrived announcing their amicable split last year. Was it down to Chris’ hottie-upgrade post-Jurassic Park and Guardians of the Galaxy? Or was it simply down to two people’s lives moving in different directions? Either way, we were sad to hear it.

Ariana Grande and Mac Miller

While perhaps not a great love of the ages, pop starlet Ariana Grande and rapper Mac Miller were together for two years. He was by her side through the horrors of the Manchester bombings last May – and the pair performed together at the One Love Manchester concert (below) honouring the victims and survivors. However as Ariana gets set to release her new album, the two have gone their separate ways, with lots of mutual love and respect etc. It’s gone official-official now too: they’ve unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Alexa Chung and Alex ‘Arctic Monkeys’ Turner

Best fucking friends 💔 #alexandalexaneverdies

This one was a while ago but was a bit of a dream ‘cool kids’ pairing. The model/writer/fashion designer Alexa and the ridey frontman Alex (who we’re still into, even with the 70s dad look he’s got going on at the mo). They were together for about six years, breaking up in 2011 but late last year there were rumours that they were having 'dealings'. We’re obviously not the only ones who loved ‘em either - someone created an Instagram account dedicated to ‘shipping them together!

Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen

While Michael Sheen’s hotness levels caused a bit of a disagreement in the U office (eh, obviously he’s a big ride!), the general awesomeness of this paring was not lost on anyone. The whip smart funny girl and the acclaimed Welsh actor seemed perfect for each other. Things were off, then on again and are now off again. Although if rumours that Michael and the fab Aisling Bea are true, we’re on board with that too!

Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt

And finally, the classic breakup that we’ll never really be over – even though, since then, it’s become clear they were probably better apart. They were the dream couple of the early Noughties - the sitcom golden girl and the movie heartthrob - and their wedding in 2000 looked perfect. It all ended horribly, of course, in 2005 but a part of us will always miss Brad ‘N’ Jen. (But that doesn't mean we'd like to see them get back together!)
