In one of Spring/Summer’s most sought after trends, the shirt dress!
If there’s one thing we love here in UFashion.ie, it’s a little bit of a twist on a classic trend. Whether it’s a bardot-cut top paying homage to our favourite 1950’s pin-up girl or a pair of boot-cut jeans that rival Farrah Faucets, a bit of a throwback is always welcomed by us.
So when shirt dresses could be seen on the Chloé, Burberry Prorsum and Stella McCartney catwalks alike, us ladies here in UFashion.ie got very excited. A collared shirt-dress is the perfect go-to item in any wardrobe and to see one of the most wearable fashion trends being showcased by some of the most esteemed designers, you know it’s time to invest in a few for next season.
The shirt dress first became popular in the 1950’s, but with a very different style to what you can expect today. Collared dresses were nothing without their voluminous bottom halves: think Betty Draper in Mad Men.
Since then, this coveted dress has remained a constant trend throughout the last 60 years but with a different twist year on year. No doubt Spring/Summer ’15 is going to be the best yet (well, according to us anyway) with super high slits, dropped waists, unusual cuts and belted styles.
Maybe sometimes longing for a simpler time where wearing a big, bouncy dresses while baking pies in a kitchen and awaiting a ‘Honey I’m home‘ beckoning from the front door is a nice thought, but we still wouldn’t change the updated shirt-dress look for anything.
You wouldn’t see Betty Draper rocking this look with biker boots, leather jackets, skinny belts, knee-high gladiator sandals or chunky knits now would you?
