There was quite the party at the British Ambassador's residence for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The guest list included lots of famous faces and some of Ireland’s coolest women.
As a royal Meghan has to tread a fine line. The British royal family are not allowed to be political in public but Meghan seems to navigates the rules like a pro. She oviously knows a good thing when she sees it too – as she managed to have the chats with some really impressive Irish women.
Who Meghan Met
OH MY GOODNESS. I had the great privilege and pleasure of speaking with Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Sussex this evening about the importance and power of fashion and the opportunities we’ve both been afforded by @OneYoungWorld. . . A particular honour to be in this moment wearing custom @richardmalone - an extraordinary Irish designer, based in London who believes ‘clothes should fit women, women shouldn’t be made to fit clothes.’ . . An honour to meet HRH. Thank you to the British Embassy in Dublin. . . [Image description: Standing in the grounds of the residence of the British Ambassador with HRH The Duchess of Sussex. She’s kindly balancing on her knees to speak with me and I’m gesturing wildly - with perhaps a little too much enthusiasm.] #RoyalVisitIreland 📷 @kensingtonroyal
Activist and writer, Sinead Burke (who was a U 30 Under 30 award winner in 2016) has been absolutely killing it this year. She and Meghan had chats about their involvement in the One Young World, a global forum for young leaders, and about the importance of fashion.
Journalist and vocal Repeal activist Una Mullally also got to talk to Meghan and said she’s a “total sounder”. She tweeted afterwards,
‘Great to chat with Meghan Markle, Duchess Of Sussex, about Repeal and the importance of her feminist activism. So important to have people in her position championing women’s rights.’
Irish writer, comedian and actress Aisling Bea was living her best life at the party and was pretty delighted to meet Harry and Megs. Her Instagram is full of hilarious comments and shots from the evening - hanging out with the Hoobz was probably great craic too.
Thank you to my good friend Tammy, CEO of the Shona Project @shonadotie for blagging me an invite to the garden party for Harry & Meghan at Glencairn. It was a welcome break from campaigning for #CervicalCheck though I did do a bit of that last night 😉 pic.twitter.com/hr1LzaKceT— Vicky Phelan (@PhelanVicky) July 11, 2018
Limerick woman and all-round hero Vicky, who exposed the HSE CervicalCheck scandal, was also at the party. She seemed stunned when Meghan told her that she had been following her story and told her to ‘keep going’.
Louise McSharry DJ'd the event, and her playlist included lots of brilliant contemporary Irish music - and got a nod of approval from Prince Harry! You can check it out here:
Here's a link to the playlist I mainly worked from last night. According to @WeeMissBea, Harry commented on the music being good, which wouldn't surprise me because Irish music is KILLING IT right now! <3 https://t.co/0mUPmI61uu— Louise McSharry (@louisemcsharry) July 11, 2018
