Socks and sandals? Cute.
Last summer you were raiding your Dad's wardrobe for the perfect pair of chunky trainers, this season you have your eyes set firmly on your Granny's favourite knitted cardigan and next, you're going to be paying your Mam's closet a visit to borrow this season's hottest trend.
No, we're not talking about that neon power blazer she wore to her first ever interview back in 1987 (although that is worth borrowing). We're actually referring to her choice in summer shoes. You know those chunky platform sandals she takes out every summer because "they're comfortable", the ones you mock her for and are quite frankly embarrassed to be seen in public with her when she's wearing them? Well, it looks like it's your mam is going to be having the last laugh because if the current fashion week catwalks are anything to go by, mom sandals have officially become cool.

The unlikely trend is being dubbed as 'mom sandals' / 'tourist sandals' by fashionistas everywhere. And while to us mere mortals, the trend is somewhat confusing, insta-cool-girls everywhere have already started to incorporate the trend into their daily lewks...and now that we see how they're styled, we're kinda on board. Kinda.
Some fashion 'it' girls are letting the sandals do the talking as they wear the shoe bare legged with a simple outfit. Others, however, are taking the trend into full-on mom mode and pairing their footwear with socks. While your mam wore socks for extra comfort, insta-cool-girls are wearing socks with their sandals because it's fashun.
Brands like Gucci, Prada and Chloé have all began to design and create their own unique take on the mom sandal so give it a week or two and we predict you'll be seeing these everywhere on the high street.
Much like the chunky trainer trend, we think it's going to take us some serious time to get on board with the mom sandal.
