Irish beauty brands are making waves both at home and abroad as they bring the very best of our fair isle to the rest of the world. Here's four of our favourites.
Founded by Trinity’s Entrepreneur in Residence Dr Simon Jackon and his partner John Murray, Modern Botany is a unisex oil based on the medicinal power of plants and the study of pharmacognosy. Based in Schull, the oil included local ingredients such as Irish flax seed oil chamomile and calendula and promises to solve everything from moisturising, cleansing, stretch marks, scarring, face and body and hair and nails. This oil is truly a game changer.
Their ethos revolves using less products on the skin so you have more room in your bathroom for a vase of flowers and their products are all based around the best ingredients working to the best of their ability – who wouldn’t love Kinvara? Founded by Joanne Reilly, her day job working with endangered species in Sumatra and Mauritius showed that the solution to tricky skin always came back to plants. And so, with her doctorate in tropical ecology and degree in natural sciences she set about founded Kinvara. All ingredients are organically sourced and the brand is on the way to becoming organically certified, something Joanne feels very strongly about. We can’t live without their Absolute Cleansing Face Oil.
Using her knowledge of the medicinal and therapeutic virtues of plants, Claire Gardiner started developing recipes for a moisturizer made from entirely natural ingredients in her home kitchen. Her homemade cream proved so popular with family and friends that she launched Dublin Herbalists Skincare in 2013 and now makes over 20 products, all of which use Claire’s recipes, and are designed to make the best of carefully selected and sourced natural ingredients. At the brand’s core is a passionate belief in the strength of natural ingredients, a deep understanding of the importance of sustainability in ingredients.
The Burren Perfumery
Where do we even begin to explain how much we love this place? From the skincare to the perfumes we’ve been having a love affair with all things Burren Perfumery for well over six years now and it shows no signs of abating. Run with love by the fabulous Sadie Chowen and her partner Ralph Doyle, every single product is made on site while the newly opened tea rooms means visitors can sit and play with their purchases before going back for more. The range includes perfume (obviously), soap, skincare, balms and candles all made from natural ingredients promising big results. We love the Rosehip Oil and Ilaun, the brand’s signature scent.
