Bringing a whole new meaning to send NuDeZ...

A nude lip is a makeup bag staple. It's the one product that we literally carry everywhere and it goes with every makeup look. From a winged liner to a smokey eye, the answer is always a nude lip.

But the one downside to a nude lipstick? How hard it is to find the perfect shade. The cosmetic industry has become inundated with classic nude shades. From MAC's Velvet Teddy, Charlotte Tilbury's Pillow Talk to NYX's Pure Nude, it can be quite the struggle to find a shade that's right for you.

Well, it turns out that after all this time and all those lipstick swatches, the answer to a perfect nude lip has been right under your nose...or your shirt, rather. It's all because the perfect shade of nude is actually the colour of your nipple.

No, we're really not having you on. It's true. The theory is that because the areolae are a slightly different colour to the rest of your body, it's actually the perfect shade. It's not too dark that it looks like you're just wearing a bold lip and it's not too light that it looks like you're trying to make foundation lips a thing again.

Don't believe us? Well, you could just look under your shirt or you could listen to makeup guru Marissa Carter. Yesterday, Marissa took to her Instagram stories to show her followers how to find their perfect nude lipstick. Amongst showcasing the lipsticks from her collection, Carter Beauty, she revealed that matching your lipstick to the shade of your nipples is the only way to go.

However, just try and resist the urge to start swatching lipsticks on your boobs in public...
