Pippa O'Connor on what you should wear to really impress the in-laws...
Hello again! Recently my friend (who’ll remain nameless!)
called me in a panicked state: her boyfriend of six months asked her to meet his parents. She’s a very confident and outgoing girl, but even still she was so nervous about meeting them and most of all about what to wear! I haven’t been in that uncomfortable situation in nearly seven years so I’d kind of forgotten the feeling, but it is pretty stressful. You want to look stylish, sophisticated, and a little sweet... all at once! After helping her with her wardrobe dilemma it got me thinking about other outfits for ‘meeting the parents’, so I set off and chose three different looks to help you look like the perfect little daughter-in-law!
Meeting the Parents!
This floral tea dress is so sweet. Okay, it’s a little short on me I hear you say. I’m 5’9” though so if you’re less than that, perfecto! Or if you’re tall too and don’t mind it being short go for it! If you were going to a BBQ or if it was any way warmer this would be ideal. You could wear it with black tights in the winter also. I teamed it with these great black ankle boots. They have a small block heel. They’re a wardrobe staple at this stage. I think they’re really cool with the dress.
Dress, €67/NI £45, Topshop | Boots, €29.95/NI £24.99, H&M.
If you’d like to play it a little safer with jeans this look is the way to go. I love these skinny stretchy jeans. They’re a great spring/summer colour too, they’re a great blue for the summer months. I teamed it with a beautiful lemon knit. I love this shade. It’s very flattering and such a fresh colour. The cream detail on the shoulders makes it so girlie and delicate looking. I finished it off with snake skin flats to jazz things up a bit. You could wear these all summer, they’d be great with white jeans too!
Jumper, €59/NI £38, Topshop | Jeans, €58/NI £36, Topshop | Shoes, €36/NI £29, Oasis.
I’ve stuck with jeans again but I opted for a loose fitted chunky knit. For those who don’t like the shorter fitted type like the previous look this one is an excellent alternative. I love this oversized style. It’s just so comfy but effortlessly chic looking. The powder blue is such a beautiful colour. I found this beautiful statement necklace, it complements the jumper perfectly. This outfit is very, ‘I didn’t make an effort but secretly did and still look great!’. I’m definitely purchasing this combo myself! If you want a little bit of height these brown ankle boots are perfect. They’re such a versatile shade, I fell in love with them when I saw them. I guarantee they’ll go with everything in your wardrobe too!
Jumper, €50/NI £37, Warehouse | Necklace, €22.95/NI £19.99, Zara | Jeans, as before | Boots, €85/NI £68, Oasis.
I hope you like the looks? More importantly I hope your potential in-laws do too! Good luck, I want an invite to the wedding for my participation... Much love, Pippa x
Hydra Quench Tinted Moisturiser, €34.50, Clarins.
Hydra Quench Tinted Moisturiser clarins
With warmer months approaching we all need a great tinted moisturiser. This little beauty is new to Clarins, it’s only just been launched. I’ve been using it on days I don’t want to wear any or much makeup. It covers skin with a veil of colour and leaves a really soft satin finish. It gets bonus points from me for being so quick to apply. Available in three shades, I’m using 04 ‘Blond’, and it’s €34.50.
Perfect for your hols too, it has SPF 15 in it but don’t forget to apply at least an SPF 30 underneath.
