We're talking SpongeBob-shaped box bags, latex mermaid dresses and inflatable pineapples.
Fashion takes inspiration from all kinds of places. History, nature, art and apparently now from children's TV shows. Yes, really. There was a SpongeBob fashion show at Amsterdam Fashion Week and surprisingly, it's everything we ever dreamed of.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants (we feel old), fashion designer Marlou Breuls took fashion week attendees under the sea for a haute couture reimaging of the beloved animated series.
The collection is a licensed collaboration with Nickelodeon complete with an inflatable pineapple home at the top of the runway. However, that's where the SpongeBob comparison dies. According to Marlou Breul, Spongebob is no longer a rectangularly shaped prism. Instead, he is actually a ruffle-covered asymmetrical shape with latex thigh high boots.
As for Squidward, well he too has recieived a makeover and now opts for a latex mermaid dress with strategically placed cutouts. Now, this is how you dress up as a sexy Squidward for Halloween...
