We’re not sure how long it’s going to be around for but this run of good weather has us rethinking our makeup routines. Big time.
Gone is the lovely matte foundation and carefully applied highlights – instead we are, well, sweaty beasts, frankly. And we’re working with it.
Our makeup just won’t stay put in this heat so we’re opting for a much easier option. Rather than battle the summer sweats, we’re embracing them and going for creamy formulations, glowy highlights and are rediscovering that summer fave: the tinted moisturiser.
Formulations are seriously good these days, so you’ll get one that’s sheer but has sufficient coverage if you’re worried about being too bare faced (you can use a touch of concealer where you really need it too).
Don’t forget about your SPF too. Some tinted moisturisers have built-in sun care which is grand if you’re in and out of the sun but if you’re spending any length of time outside make sure you’ve got a dedicated high factor UVA/UVB SPF underneath.
If you’re really super-shiny you can take it down a bit on the bridge of the nose or centre of the forehead with a swoosh translucent powder. Don’t overdo it though: you’re meant to be glowy!
Five to Try
If you find it hard to match your skin tone, or like to have a bit of variety, Clinique’s clever BIY drops let you custom blend the coverage! One drop added to your moisturiser will give a sheer finish, while three will give more coverage.
If you’re looking for one to wear day-to-day this option from No7 works to protect skin from external aggressors like pollution. It contains an antioxidant complex and SPF15, making it a great little all-rounder.
This beauty teams skincare benefits (courtesy of the brand’s Miracle Broth) with a creamy, light diffusing finish. It has SPF 30 in it and also protects against pollution. It’s a gorgeous multi-tasker for summer.
This gel-cream textured tint from Bare Minerals melts into skin but still gives effective coverage. It’s like a BB cream, a CC cream and a tinted moisturiser combined - and it feels like skincare on your face.
Brilliant for holidays, this dinky bottle of Chanel loveliness is part of the Les Beiges range. It’s like a sheer veil on skin but still make skin look fab – a touch of concealer where/if you need it and you’re good.
