Zac Efron, we're coming for you.
Just like the rest of us, celebrities are looking for love. But ever wonder how celebrities actually find one another? If you think they all must fall in love while working on the same film set or that they meet at some glamourous after party, you'd be wrong.
Turns out celebs are a lot more normal than we think as they too use Tinder to find whatever it is they're looking for, well kind of.
Raya is a dating app that is exclusively set up for celebrities and it's basically like the hipster, 'model'-infested version of Fight Club because it's Hollywood's best-kept secret. The first rule of Raya: you do not talk about Raya. The app is so private that not only do you have to meet the app's list of criteria to even get an account but it also punishes you if you take a screenshot. Seriously.
The app was founded in 2016 and it describes itself as a connector for "creative types." Each user's profile is vetted by a secret committee to ensure you meet the app's standards. Raya sets such strict rules in order to weed out any gold diggers or wannabe celebs trying to get their fifteen minutes of fame.
While we kid that the app is filled with Z listers, Raya actually has quite the bunch of stars. According to Nylon; Cara Delevingne, Ruby Rose, Matthew Perry, Teri Hatcher, Zach Braff, Raven Symoné and Joe Jonas have all used the app at one stage or another.
It's also been reported that Raya is a big hit with the boys from One Direction as Harry Styles and Niall Horan have both been spotted on the app.
Similar to Tinder, both parties must tap each other's hearts in order to make a match. Your account is also linked to your Instagram account which directly pulls photos for your profile. You also chose a song which the app then uses to make your profile pictures into a slideshow.
Good news! There are actual regular people on Raya, so there is hope for us all. However, gaining the approval of the secret committee is quite the process. From what we can gather, you need to meet at least four out of five possible criteria.
1. Have a cool and/or creative occupation.
2. Have a significant Instagram following (5,000+).
3. Be recommended by a friend(s) who is also on Raya.
4. Be attractive.
5. Quite possibly be a mythological creature.
So say you do get accepted by the Raya powers that be, it's not all plain sailing from there. You can be removed from the app at any stage. If you match with a big-time Hollywood celeb and decide to screenshot it so you can brag to your friends that Niall Horan thinks your hot, you'll be sent an immediate alert threatening to kick you off the app should the screenshot appear online anywhere.
Now, it sounds fairly strict and a bit OTT but Raya prides itself in maintaining a high level of exclusivity and professionalism which allows their users to date in total secrecy.
Now off you go and find Prince Charming who just so happens to be super famous.
