Think the Algarve is all golf and business lunches? Think again, because Quinta do Lago might just be the best place to hit for a long weekend hit of vitamin D.
Set on a lake and with everything you need within a ten minute date, Quinta do Lago is the sort of place we never thought we'd enjoy. Until we went, and realised that having everything on your doorstep is the best way to unwind, relax and really enjoy a holiday.
No panicking about what to do or where to go, Quinta do Lago has done all that for you. Meaning if you want to work out, there's an option for that. If you want to let loose with some sundowners they've got you covered; and you can still enjoy fine dining and poolside beers. Basically, if you're planning to get away for a mini break; this is the place to go.
Where to stay
The Magnolia Hotel
Think 1960s Miami with five star service and you're halfway to imagining how fun The Magnolia Hotel is. Located right in the heart of Quinto do Lago; The Magnolia is one of the few reasonably-priced hotels in the area, but that doesn't mean the experience is any less glam. Perfect for a group of girls on a weekend away, the hotel is centered around the pool area, with lounger-service; cocktail offerings and bar food always on offer. Inside the interiors is Golden Girls meets Tropical Popical and is Insta-heaven; should you be so inclined. Best of all, the rooms are kitted out with chi chi toiletries; luxury bedding and slick extras.
Rooms start from €70 per night; visit The Magnolia Hotel for more information
Where to play
The Shack Bar
The Shack Bar is the only place to be seen for sundowners; but be there by 4pm if you want to get inside at all. Yes, it's that popular and unfortunately it doesn't take reservations. A bar and grill right on the water; The Shack Bar is home to live music every evening and encourages a dance on the table give it all you've got vibe; right from the off. The food is delicious; relaxed and more eat with your fingers than fine dining; but for a large gang out for a good night this is the place to start.

Casa Do Lago
For a romantic lunch or dinner, try Casa Do Lago. It enjoys the same lake view as The Shack, but has a more refined vibe. Fresh seafood, crisp white wine and excellent service makes this the perfect spot for a romantic meal a deux. Cheese lovers would well to try the burrata while we suggest everyone leaves room for dessert; take your time, enjoy the view and let the food settle.

Meat lovers rejoice, Bovinos is the sort of steakhouse you'll remember forever. Choice cuts of meats served in an old-world style restaurant, makes you want to sit back and pretend you're in Mad Men. While the interiors deserve a mention, it's the 2-person ‘Bovino Signature Cuts Experience’ we want to really recommend. For those not convinced, remember Bovino Steakhouse picked up the award for Best Restaurant Bar at the recent Drinks Diary Bar Awards. A little spendier than some of the options, Bovinos is a last night treat sort of place.

Where to work it off
Let's face it, it's rare to go on holidays these days and not fit in a workout or two, or at least intend to try. Which is why we were so impressed by The Campus, aunique, state of the art multi-sports complex in the heart of Quinta do Lago. From tennis to cycling and padel to the high performance gym, there's something for all energy levels. And while we love that side of it, it's Dano's Sport's Bar, the on site bar that really got our motivation going!
