Grace Jones, Beverly Johnson and Pat Cleveland all made appearances on the catwalk.

In a time when the raging bull of white supremacy seems to have taken over Western politics, it appears that hopefuls can turn to the creative industries to get their fix of tolerance in the form of diversity.

Enter, Zendaya.

The angel-faced renaissance women who, this weekend, took to the catwalks of Paris to promote her new #TOMMYNOW collaboration for Tommy Hilfiger and convinced some huge names to give her a hand in doing so.

The 22-year-old – collaborating with her creative partner and stylist Law Roach – hired 59 black models, aged 18 to 70 to put on an enormous 70s-themed bash and feel beautiful in her newly-designed clothing.

Included in these models were some of the women Zendaya wanted to thank for their influence in fashion, Hollywood, and beyond.

Pioneering icons Beverly JohnsonVeronica Webb, and Beverly Peele walked the show, along with Pat Cleveland, who said backstage to Elle, "Zendaya talked to me about the Battle of Versailles, about Studio 54 and the '70s and '80s... she really wanted somebody who had been there and lived it on the runway.

"In a way," she grins, "I think this show is really based on the story of my life."

Speaking to the magazine, Zendaya explained that the show was an enormous thank you "to the women who made it possible for me to be in the position where I am now."

The whole event was an enormously feel-good affair.

Crowds were on their feet from the get-go, but it was music legend and Studio 54 icon Grace Jones who held the most raucous applause upon closing the show in a metallic blazer and bodysuit.

The collection – which is available to buy now – features a number of body-skimming disco dresses, flared jeans, high-waisted wide-leg pants worn with striped knits, and a few subversive twists on beauty ideals, including a series of striped swimsuits that channel the original Barbie in a more contemporary way.

It's been a busy year for the multi-hyphenate. And we have a feeling that this is only the beginning.
